You are a Bee, every day you get out of the beehive and go into the world to pollinate flowers. You have to go back to the hive before the sun sets or you will freeze to death! You find different types of flowers that give different amounts of pollen, you can use the pollen back to the hive to gain different upgrades (speed, attack, dodge…) that allow you to get further every day (roguelike, metroidvania elements). There are enemies (praying mantis, crab spiders, birds, racoons…) you have to avoid or fight.

If you die, you will get a new bee (randomized names adjective+noun?, randomized colors) and have to start again, so it’s better to go back before it’s too late. Every run you accumulate honey in the hive, which stays between runs, ensuring the player gains something from the runs. This honey could be used to upgrade the hive in some way and unlocking new upgrades (the main goal of bees is to serve the hive)

The name is a pun with BRB (be right back).

References:

·Rogue legacy (roguelike, every run is a different, randomized character)

·Endling (going back on a mission and having to go back before it’s too late)

·Hades (central hub, trying to get further every run, similar currency and upgrade system)

·Bee simulator (bee)

·PJ2 (xd)(3d sidescroller)

Style: cartoon/PSX, 3d sidescroller roguelike “metroidvania”

Gameplay loop: roguelike runs, every day you go out of the hive and try to get further (using the upgrades you unlock) to find more fruitful flowers to pollinize.

Techincal challenges:

·Bee randomization

·Upgrades and currencies:

-Pollen: local currency which resets between runs, unlocks upgrades for the run.

-Honey: global currency, stays between runs and unlocks new upgrades.

· Dynamic lighting with day/night cycle (could just be the sky dome and not the actual lighting in the demo, the light could just dim later in the day)
